Power BI Challenge 16 Wrap Up: Timesheet Utilization Reporting

by | Power BI

We’re wrapping up Power BI Challenge 16 on Enterprise DNA’s anniversary month! It’s nice to see the simple initiative that our founder Sam McKay started 6 years ago has led to this — a collaborative community that has grown by leaps and bounds. The Power BI Challenge is definitely one of the best initiatives we’ve seen and has helped the entire community learn more, share more and grow more.

Power BI Challenges

The Power BI Challenge is a monthly event that allows participants to showcase their skills in different scenarios mimicking real-life applications and events. These challenges have never failed to highlight how dynamic Power BI is as we cover different fields, topics and industries in every challenge.

They say that the best way to learn is through hands-on experience, and that’s exactly what these challenges have been providing to participants. In fact, we’ve seen participants jumping into these challenges as beginners and eventually submitting winning entries that show the perfect mix of creativity and insights.

It’s also inspiring to see the collaboration among the participants. You’ll see them sharing best practices and answering each other’s questions. We have our experts jumping in as well and guiding them through their development process.

We’ve also seen how effective these reports are for others who need samples and tools that could help them improve their own process. That’s why we created the Power BI Challenge Showcase, a collection of the reports and dashboards submitted by our participants. These reports can be downloaded as pbix files, allowing users to study them in detail. It’s also a great way to showcase the hard work of our participants on the Enterprise DNA site.

To find out who wins, we gauge each submission based on the the four pillars of a great Power BI report:

  • Data modeling
  • DAX calculations
  • Loading and transforming data
  • Reports and visualizations

We also add more value to each challenge by giving away amazing prizes to the winners. A complimentary Enterprise DNA membership awaits challenge winners, which unlocks a treasure trove of resources, events and other content that can further advance their Power BI skills.

Challenge 16 Winner

All the entries for Power BI Challenge 16 were amazing! The way each report was crafted is truly inspiring, as each participant shows us how to get as much insight as possible while also taking their creativity to the next level.

A big congrats to @robert.maembe, who covered all bases brilliantly with this report.

Haroon especially applauded the calendar visual with the heat map, and mentioned that he might also apply the same technique in his own reports. Wow! This is truly amazing work by Robert.

It was also great to see more first-time participants in this round. They all submitted excellent reports, but @sabine’s submission really stood out. Congrats on being our first-time participant winner, Sabine!

Well done to all of our participants! We can’t wait to see the submissions you’ll be putting together for us in our next challenge.

If you haven’t joined any of our challenge yet, jump in the next time we release a new one! The experience, the learnings and the prizes are surely more than worth it.

All the best,

Enterprise DNA Team
