An Introduction to Deneb: Declarative Visualization in Power BI – New Enterprise DNA Course

by | Announcement

Visualization will always be one of the critical areas that can make or break the quality of your reports. Though Power BI has a myriad of tools that help users create excellent reports, its standard visuals might not be enough to cover all the bases. Deneb, a new certified custom visual, can help with that.

In this new course by Greg Philps, Power BI users can make their visuals even more powerful to present the data and highlight the right areas more effectively.

What To Expect

Deneb allows the use of the JSON-based language called Vega-Lite, which has been used for quite some time especially when it comes to interactive graphics. A declarative language, Vega-Lite describes a visual in full code by saying what a visual should be doing instead of detailing how it should be done.

As we all know, Power BI is built for seamless integration, making Deneb the perfect visualization tool. Its full integration with Power BI means that it works well with existing visualization tools within Power BI.

This course will be covering three major sections — theory, practice and examples. It will talk about Deneb and Vega-Lite in detail, which includes definition, installation, structure, integration options, and a lot more.

By the end of this course, users should be able to:

  • Create a Deneb visual in Power BI using a built-in or a custom template
  • Create a Deneb visual within Power BI from scratch
  • Link-leverage the interactivity available in Vega-Lite to link multiple visuals in a single Deneb specification
  • Compose a visual consisting of many overlapping-or-concatenated simple visuals
  • Integrate a Deneb visual with the colour theme of a Power BI report
  • Use development aids like text editor, visual studio code, etc. to enhance the visual creation experience

Through these learning opportunities, data professionals can send the right message and analysis to their unique audiences using visualizations.

Who The Course Is For

This course is perfect for Power BI users who want to leverage the power of excellent visuals to convey the right information to their audience. It’s perfect for users with an intermediate understanding of how Power BI and its visualization tools work. A background in JSON code would be an asset, but is not required.

This course is also exclusive to Enterprise DNA members, so this could be the perfect time to upgrade to a full membership so that you can explore other related courses and level up your overall data analysis and visualization skills as well.
